Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) dysfunction is usually characterized by pain in the jaw or front of the ear, headaches or neck/shoulder discomfort. An examination by a physician or dentist is the first step toward accurately diagnosing and treating TMJ dysfunction.
The TMJ Program at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis begins with a thorough musculoskeletal examination by a physical therapist, who will pay particular attention to your posture, which affects the function of the TMJ, neck and shoulders. From this evaluation, an individualized treatment program will be developed.
Your tailored treatment program may include:

- Postural Training -

- Education -
Includes information on the anatomy of the TMJ, neck and shoulders, as well as education regarding techniques that can be used in your daily life to ease your symptoms.
