Milliken Hand Rehabilitation Center
Milliken is one of the first three hand centers developed in the United States and has treated thousands of patients with hand, shoulder and arm injuries since its conception in 1971. Milliken offers a comprehensive treatment approach to specialized hand and upper extremity rehabilitation throughout the entire recovery proecess -- from the time of injury until the return of function, mobility and independence.

Our Staff
The occupational, physical and certified hand therapists at the Milliken Hand Rehabilitation Center have more than 50 years of combined experience in treating patients with injuries of the hand, shoulder and arm. As part of The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, the Milliken therapy team works with plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and other physicians from Washington University School of Medicine and the community to provide advanced treatment for these types of injuries.

Our Patients
Our therapists work with patients who have experienced an injury to the hand, shoulder and / or arm. Some examples of the diagnoses we treat include injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, fractures (broken bones), amputations and trauma. Services
Specialized treatment of upper extremity dysfunction including acute trauma, replantation, tendon injuries, arthritis, fractures, congenital deformities, amputations, nerve injuries, compression syndromes, dupuytren's disease, wrist injuries and burns.

Assessment
The Milliken Hand Rehabilitation Center's therapy team performs a thorough assessment of each patient, and a treatment program is developed using the following criteria:
  • Strength
  • Range of motion
  • Sensation
  • Edema (swelling)
  • Coordination
  • Activities of daily living
In addition, our therapists are available to perform the following specialty evaluations:
  • Preoperative assessment
  • Postoperative assessment
  • Final disability assessment
  • Worker capabilities for job requirements
Intervention
Once an assessment has been completed, an individualized treatment program is established with the goal of returning function to the patient while minimizing pain.
