The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis' Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program is designed to meet the needs of today's adults, their families and caregivers. This program offers a team of specialists who evaluate changes in a patient's status and make recommendations to improve the patient's current situation in an inpatient or outpatient setting. People who may benefit from such a program include those who have experienced one or more of the following:
- Increased falls, dizziness or balance disorders
- Decline in endurance or stamina
- Difficulty transferring to a chair, toilet or tub
- Sudden change in weight; difficulty swallowing
- Change in mental status (confusion, decreased memory)
- Need for assistance with self-care (bathing, dressing)
- Shortness of breath with activity
- Loss of personal independence
The primary goal of the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program is to initiate a treatment plan that addresses patient needs and coordinates services so they can function at an optimum level.
Our multidisciplinary team is directed by an attending physician and a case manager. Other team members include a physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech / language pathologist, rehabilitation nurse, pharmicist, and dietitian.
- Provides the patient with a multidisciplinary assessment of status and capacity
- Generates a treatment plan to be shared with all patient caregivers
- Determines the optimal setting for further rehabilitation needs
- Recommends community services to assist the patient in achieving maximum function
- Promotes understanding of the potential impact of a patient's medical status and function
- Provides basis education regarding medical diagnosis, physical limitations and a healthy lifestyle for the future
Based on the results of the assessment, treatment plans will be developed and may include a home exercise program, rehabilitation, neuropsychology evaluation and caregiver education.
The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis welcomes anyone whole quality of life has been comprimised by illness or injury. Referrals are accepted from patients, their families, physicians, social workers, insurance companies and other healthcare providers.
