Located in St. Louis, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury, hip fracture and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

When you choose The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, an affiliation of BJC HealthCare and Encompass Health for your rehabilitation, you receive compassionate care from an expert team of physical, occupational and speech therapists; physicians; nurses; dietitians; pharmacists; and case managers who work together to create a plan to help you meet your unique goals.

At our hospital you will receive:

  • Three hours of therapy, five days per week
  • 24/7 nursing care, including nurses who specialize in rehabilitation
  • Frequent visits from a physician*

*We provide access to independent physicians.

Jeffrey Reese
JEFFREY REESE

Chief Executive Officer

Jeff serves as the chief executive officer at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis and Southern Illinois.

Jeff serves as the chief executive officer at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis and The Rehabilitation Institute of Southern Illinois. Prior to that he served as CEO for Van Matre Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute. Previous to his CEO role at Van Matre, Jeff served as the CFO/controller of Rusk Rehabilitation Center, an Encompass Health hospital. He earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in business administration from Northwest Missouri State University. He brings prior healthcare experience from the acute hospital setting at both SSM Health St. Mary’s in Jefferson City, Missouri and Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri. Jeff feels that exceptional healthcare is achieved through building a highly trained, caring staff that pursues the highest level of independence for every patient.

Michael Boeving
DR. MICHEAL BOEVING

Medical Director

Dr. Boeving started at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in July of 2022, and was appointed medical director in February 2023.

Dr. Boeving started at The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in July of 2022, and was appointed medical director in February 2023. Dr. Boeving is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and specializes in cancer rehabilitation, complex medical issues, multi-trauma, spasticity management and stroke rehabilitation. Dr. Boeving earned a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and completed a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood, Florida. As the medical director of The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, he actively participates in the daily efforts to advance the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of rehabilitation care provided. His hobbies include cycling, photography, entomology, hiking and horticulture.

Ashton Brehm

Director of Business Development

Ashton joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in 2017 as a rehabilitation liaison and currently serves as business development director.

Ashton joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in 2017 as a rehabilitation liaison and currently serves as business development director. She has 13 years of admissions, marketing and business development experience across the post acute care continuum. Ashton earned her bachelor's degree at Michigan State University in 2003.

LORI BROOKS

Human Resources Director

Lori joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis as human resources director in January 2024.

Lori joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis as human resources director in January 2024. Lori has more than 20 years of experience in human resources with 18 of those being in healthcare. Lori earned both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in human resource management. Prior to this role, Lori held a leadership position in acute care and critical access facilities. She is also certified as a professional in human resources and a Society of Human Resource Management-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).

Molly joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in 2014 as a case manager and currently serves as the director of case management.

Molly joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in 2014 as a case manager and currently serves as the director of case management. She has been a licensed clinical social worker since 2014. She has more than 10 years of inpatient case management experience in acute rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities. Molly earned her master’s degree in social work from the University of Missouri in St. Louis.

Chief Nursing Officer

Brook joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis as chief nursing officer in May 2023.

Brook joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis as chief nursing officer in May 2023. Brook began her career in nursing and has served in a variety of healthcare leadership roles throughout her career. Brook earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in business. Prior to joining TRISL, Brook held leadership positions in acute critical care, outpatient, and procedural departments.

Leslie Kohnen, PT, DPT, NCS

Director of Therapy Operations

Leslie joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in 2011.

Leslie joined The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis in 2011. She is certified as a neurological clinical specialist. Leslie completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois, graduating in 2008 with a bachelor's degree. She then earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Washington University in 2011. Leslie has more than 10 years of inpatient rehabilitation experience in all disease-specific programs including brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and amputation.

Jeremy joined MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital in 2008.

Jeremy joined MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital in 2008. He was named the area facilities management director in 2023, adding The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis - St. Peters to his daily operations. Jeremy graduated from Fort Scott Community College with an associate degree in science.

Angie serves as the area director of quality and risk management for The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis' three locations.

Angie serves as the area director of quality and risk management for The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis’ three locations: Central West End, St. Peters and Town & Country. Angie has been with Encompass Health for more than 20 years. She holds certifications in healthcare quality, healthcare risk management and has a bachelor’s degree from Webster University.

Doctor of Pharmacy

Matt completed his Doctor of Pharmacy at St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 2014.

Matt completed his Doctor of Pharmacy at St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 2014 and his ASHP Accreditation Standard for Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency in 2015. During Matt’s tenure in pharmacy, he has held supervisor and leadership positions. Matt joined Encompass Health in 2018 and was named the director of pharmacy in 2022.
